The Viridian Group has played a lead role in the development of the all-island electricity market in Ireland where, under its Energia brand, it is the leading independent electricity supplier with over 30% market share in the large energy user sector. Northern Ireland Electricity (NIE), the Group's major subsidiary, is responsible for the regulated procurement, transmission, distribution and supply of electricity to 758,000 customers in Northern Ireland, managing 55,000 km of network infrastructure in mainly in rural areas. Powerteam Electrical Services, which undertakes contracting work on electricity networks and high voltage facilities is also a member of the Viridian Group.
