The HMV Group (formerly HMV Media Group) was formed in March 1998 following the acquisition of HMV and Dillon's from EMI, and Waterstone's from W H Smith. The group now operated 580 stores as Waterstone's and HMV. The group brings together one of the world's leading retailers of music and video and the leading retailer of books in the UK. The company listed on the London Stock Exchange on 15 May 2002, successfully establishing a more appropriate capital structure for its future growth. Prior to the Initial Public Offering, the Company operated as a leveraged buy-out.
