CRH plc

Company Overview

CRH plc was formed through a merger in 1970 of two leading Irish public companies, Cement Limited (established in 1936) and Roadstone, Limited (1949). The newly-formed group was the sole producer of cement and the principal producer of aggregates, concrete products and asphalt in Ireland. In 1970 CRH had sales of c. €27 million, c. 95% in Ireland.

Company Strategy

A long-standing development strategy is still in place:

Sticking to core businesses in building materials and building regional market leadership positions; reinvesting in existing assets and people to be the low cost market leader; gaining exposure to new development opportunities which create horizons for future growth; paying fair prices through negotiated deals that meet the sellers’ total needs; implementation by 14 devolved development teams reporting to regional and product group managers; and a rigorous approach to the evaluation, approval and subsequent performance review of all projects.
