MARATHON PAIR TAKE ON LONDON CHALLENGE FOR MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORT

Two Greene King employees will swap the pavements of Bury St Edmunds for the roads of the capital next weekend as they take on the London Marathon in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. David Carr, 43, and Marie Williams, 40, who both work for Greene King in Bury St Edmunds, will tackle the iconic 26.2 mile course to raise vital funds for Greene King’s chosen national charity partner.

Company Overview

Brewer and pub operator, founded in 1799 by Benjamin Greene and grown steadily from its base in Bury St. Edmunds to become a leading pub retailer and ale brewer in the south of England. Its recent history has been dominated by large acquisitions including 432 neighbourhood pubs from the Laurel Pub Company for £654 million in August 2004, and the successful £600 million securitisation of part of its managed and tenanted pub portfolios early in 2005.

Company Strategy

Greene King pursue a clear and focused strategy in operating three different, but closely related, divisions in the drinks and leisure sector. Their brewing operation, which trades as Greene King Brewing Company, a managed pub business which trades as Greene King Pub Company and a tenanted and leased pub business which trades as Greene King Pub Partners, each needs to stand on its own and produce extra synergy benefits for the company as a whole when they are added together.
