Company Overview

Kingfisher is Europe's leading home improvement retail group and the third largest in the world, with leading market positions in the UK, France, Poland, Italy, Turkey, China and Taiwan.

Sales for the year ended 03 February 2007 were £8.7 billion, 50% of which was generated outside the UK. Adjusted pre-tax profit for the year was £396.6 million.

Kingfisher operates over 760 stores in 10 countries in Europe and Asia. Its main retail brands are B&Q, Castorama, Brico Dépôt and Screwfix Direct. Kingfisher also has a 21% interest in, and strategic alliance with Hornbach, Germany's leading DIY warehouse retailer, with over 120 stores across Europe.

A four point strategy
1. Strengthening B&Q’s and Castorama’s leadership positions in the UK and France, mainly by improving sales, margin and cost productivity in existing stores.
2. Expanding proven growth businesses, with significant scope to expand their store network and grow market share.
3. Establishing new opportunities for growth.
4. Capitalising on key competitive advantages: buying scale and international diversity.
